Prison wall with Precepts to live by

To Criminon of Maine, Staff and Volunteers: Thanks for all your help. Back in September of 2020, I got myself into some trouble and was just living wrong. Everything I did was not working, and I sort of thought I was doing well. But I was always in trouble. I just thought it was the normal thing. I’m in prison. I’m around bad stuff most of the day. But I was looking for change, for something big to happen in my life—really, really BIG!

In this time, and not by coincidence, your booklet The Way to Happiness came to me and it took some time to get the booklet into the prison. During this lockdown over a year and a half, I just started to work on myself, reading every day, doing work on looking into myself. One thing that really did help along the way was the BOOK. I would pick this book up often just to thumb through and just see the common sense of life.

“I live my truth as best as I can. I treat others how I would like to be treated. I stay away from all the bad stuff that does go on around me. I try and help others see the big picture of what I’ve learned along the way.”

I still have days that are tough but that’s part of being human. I live my truth as best as I can. I treat others how I would like to be treated. I stay away from all the bad stuff that does go on around me. I try and help others see the big picture of what I’ve learned along the way. What I can do to help others I’ll do, but I will not push them.

Everyone has to make their own choices. But now I try and stay on my own path with page 65 in the book:

  • Justness [justice]
  • loyalty
  • good sportsmanship
  • fairness
  • honesty
  • kindness
  • consideration
  • compassion
  • self control
  • tolerance
  • forgiveness (a hard one for me)
  • benevolence
  • belief
  • respect
  • politeness
  • dignity
  • admiration
  • friendliness
  • love
  • integrity.

I have this written on my wall. Each morning I wake up, my feet hit the floor, and this is what I see. Now once again, something BIG happened to me – very big!

This book and the Criminon staff working with me helped me with my change. Thank you. Once again thank you, to you all, for all your help along this road I’ve been on. You have helped me and I am thankful. Peace be with your all.
